PLACE 48 Palisade Fruit and Wine Byway

 Hi,  The Palisade Fruit and Wine Byway is a drive through beautiful orchards and vineyards. This is a 25 mile loop through the back roads of Palisade and East Orchard Mesa. We passed many orchards, farm stands, wineries, tasting rooms and vineyards. 



You can get maps at the bike shops or wineries in Palisade. There are different ways to do the Byway such as bike, scheduled tours, or automobile self tour. These are some that we drove by on our drive among many others .There are more than 20 orchards and more than 30 vineyards / wineries.  Every things is turning green now and so it is a lovely drive. We did one of the tours when our daughter had her 21st birthday. For bike riding, there are 3 tours which are 5, 7, or 25 miles.


Here is the harvest schedule:
cherries-June 20- July 25
apricots-June 25-July 5
apples---summer July 25- August 25, winter September 15- October 30
peaches-July 25- September 10
plums---August 1- September 15
pears----August 15- September 15
grapes---September 9- September 25

Some of the places that allow one to pick your own produce are:  Fruit Basket Orchards, Green Barn Fruit Company, Palisade Peach Shack,  Peach Fork Orchards &Vineyards.

Some of the places that have fruit stands are: Alida's Fruits, Anita's Pantry, Blaine's Farm Store, Clark's Family Orchards, C&R Farms, High Country Orchards,   Kokopelli Farm Market, Palisade Peach Shack, Sweet Cheeks Organic Peaches, Talbott's Farm Market & Taproom, Whistle Stop Shop.  Many do not open until June. 

Farmers Market is another good place to get produce and its every Sunday from June until October.

Lavender and Herbs produce can be found at Sage Creations Organic Farm. Its open April - September. You can pick your own lavender from June-July. There are guided and self guided walking tours.

I think our research on the wineries and produce will be beneficial in the coming years.

LAZY CAMPING: Fry sliced polish sausage in a camp pan til brown then scramble eggs or egg beaters till done. Season with salt and pepper. If you have grated cheese this is also a good topper.

PLACE 1 Wild Horse Range

  Hi,  This is day 1 of our 50 places in 60 days. Since our 50th anniversary is coming up soon, we  decided to celebrate by visiting 50 places in Colorado that we haven't explored yet. We also want to share a lazy camping idea in each post.  We visited a wild horse range that is close to Grand Junction, Co. Bookcliffs Wildhorse Range is 1 of 3 ranges in U.S. set aside to protect wild horses. Directions: I-70, exit 45 and go north 1.5 mile. Bear right at the fork to enter the Coal Canyon trail head. There was major road construction so be ready for some detours. The road turns to dirt after about one mile and there are a few shallow wash outs to go through. We never saw any wild horses today but there were signs that they had been in this area. There is a map display and a vault toilet in the parking lot.  This area has other trails other than the Coal Canyon Trail. We enjoyed our time here. OVERNIGHT # 8 VEGA STATE PARK

  Hi, We camped at Vega State Park on October 18th 2022. This is a great time to camp at this state park because of the golden leaves. The scenery is beautiful morning, noon and night!  The campground was sparsely populated. We were in site 114.  Vega State Park is about 8000 feet elevation and just northeast of the Grand Mesa National Forest. It is open year round. In March it was snow covered this year. There are 109 campsites located in 4 campgrounds around the lake. Activities include fishing, hiking, bird watching. In the winter it is a good place to snowshoe, cross country ski and snowmobile. The 6 cabins are open year round. Reservations are made online at Reserveamerica.com. The Meadows Group Picnic Area is so beautiful and would be a great location for a wedding or family reunion. Included here is a map of the park. We will definitely be back to stay in a cabin this winter and bring snow shoes, hot cocoa and hopefully friends and family! LAZY CAMPING MEAL: Chicken Taco Soup ve

OVERNIGHT #30 DINOSAUR INN & SUITES HOTEL / DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT &

  Hi, After 3 nights in a state park cabin without shower or running water, we booked a night at the Dinosaur Inn & Suites. This hotel is locally owned and operated and located in the heart of downtown Vernal Utah. They offer excellence in quality, comfort and hospitality since 1929. All rooms have WIFI, high speed internet, fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, iron and Direct TV with HBO and Cinemax. All the comforts were very appreciated! Our travels were to the Dinosaur National Monument. Our first stop was at the Quarry Visitor Center which is in Jensen, Utah. They are open all year except some holidays. We watched a 12 minute park film and then with an information packet we went exploring. This park has amphibians, birds, fish, mammals & reptiles. We were able to watch and enjoy some mule deer.
