PLACE 50 Ouray & Ouray Riverside Resort

 Hi,  This trip to a cabin in Ouray Colorado completes our 50 Colorado places to explore in 60 days in celebration of our 50th anniversary which was March 30th.  We started March 1st and did this last one on April 30th. We are just slow to get them blogged.

Ouray is called The Little Switzerland of America for its natural beauty.


Ouray Riverside Resort is where we stayed in a riverside cabin. There are a variety of lodging accommodations.  Every night from 6-10pm there is a community fire. On arrival we were given a complimentary S'more packet and roasting stick. 




This was the view from the porch where we ate our supper. We included a picture here of our treats for this trip.



The Uncompahgre River Walk went in front of our cabin. Its a loop trail with resting benches, exercise circuit, and bridges over the river.



The next day we went to Cascade Fall.  After a short walk there is a covered bench that looks right at the falls. Such a lovely place!


Ouray is home to the Historical Ouray Hot Springs. These geothermal pools have been used for hundreds of years and by the Ute American Tribe. The setting of these springs is in a valley surrounded by snowy mountain peaks. Its a great place to unwind and relax.



Ouray was incorporated in 1876. We included a close up picture of the town and one from near the Million Dollar Highway. We love day trips to this town. It is also fun to spend the night here in the winter and walk all over town with your dog in the snow. It is a beautiful place.


This has been a great celebration journey. After we take a break we will continue with 50 camping trips to be completed in the remainder of our 50th year together.

LAZY CAMPING: Put a map on a board so that its in plain view all the time so you will be motivated to get out there and see different places.

PLACE 1 Wild Horse Range

  Hi,  This is day 1 of our 50 places in 60 days. Since our 50th anniversary is coming up soon, we  decided to celebrate by visiting 50 places in Colorado that we haven't explored yet. We also want to share a lazy camping idea in each post.  We visited a wild horse range that is close to Grand Junction, Co. Bookcliffs Wildhorse Range is 1 of 3 ranges in U.S. set aside to protect wild horses. Directions: I-70, exit 45 and go north 1.5 mile. Bear right at the fork to enter the Coal Canyon trail head. There was major road construction so be ready for some detours. The road turns to dirt after about one mile and there are a few shallow wash outs to go through. We never saw any wild horses today but there were signs that they had been in this area. There is a map display and a vault toilet in the parking lot.  This area has other trails other than the Coal Canyon Trail. We enjoyed our time here. OVERNIGHT # 8 VEGA STATE PARK

  Hi, We camped at Vega State Park on October 18th 2022. This is a great time to camp at this state park because of the golden leaves. The scenery is beautiful morning, noon and night!  The campground was sparsely populated. We were in site 114.  Vega State Park is about 8000 feet elevation and just northeast of the Grand Mesa National Forest. It is open year round. In March it was snow covered this year. There are 109 campsites located in 4 campgrounds around the lake. Activities include fishing, hiking, bird watching. In the winter it is a good place to snowshoe, cross country ski and snowmobile. The 6 cabins are open year round. Reservations are made online at Reserveamerica.com. The Meadows Group Picnic Area is so beautiful and would be a great location for a wedding or family reunion. Included here is a map of the park. We will definitely be back to stay in a cabin this winter and bring snow shoes, hot cocoa and hopefully friends and family! LAZY CAMPING MEAL: Chicken Taco Soup ve

OVERNIGHT #30 DINOSAUR INN & SUITES HOTEL / DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT &

  Hi, After 3 nights in a state park cabin without shower or running water, we booked a night at the Dinosaur Inn & Suites. This hotel is locally owned and operated and located in the heart of downtown Vernal Utah. They offer excellence in quality, comfort and hospitality since 1929. All rooms have WIFI, high speed internet, fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, iron and Direct TV with HBO and Cinemax. All the comforts were very appreciated! Our travels were to the Dinosaur National Monument. Our first stop was at the Quarry Visitor Center which is in Jensen, Utah. They are open all year except some holidays. We watched a 12 minute park film and then with an information packet we went exploring. This park has amphibians, birds, fish, mammals & reptiles. We were able to watch and enjoy some mule deer.
