OVERNIGHT # 3 Gore Creek Campground
Hi, This is a Forest Service campground really close to Vail Colorado. Its in the White River National Forest. The Gore Creek Campground is 8,760 Ft. elevation. There are 25 sites, with about 7 being walk-in sites. Some sites are on the reservation system and some are first come on arrival. We car camped but if you bring an RV it would need to be 40 FT or less in length. All the sites are without hook-ups. You need to bring your own water also. We were in space 3. The amenities are picnic table, fire pit/grill, and vault toilets. The surroundings are aspen and pine trees.
There are 2 trail head within walking distance of the campground. Deluge Lake Trail and Gore Creek Trail. They go into the Eagle Nest Wilderness Area. Dogs are allowed on leash.
Here are some of the other campsites that looked interesting. Sites 7 and 8 are very private if reserved together with someone. Site 12 would be good for RV and tent. Sites 12 and 13 are next to the creek.
Directions: I-70, exit 180 to the south service road (Bighorn Road), go east 2 miles to campground entrance.
LAZY CAMPING: We went through Idaho Springs, so we got beef burnt end sandwiches with sides of mac and cheese and smoked baked beans from Smokin Yards BBQ. At camp we heated it all up on the camp stove and had it with Blue Moons to drink. Very tasty!
Have a good day and night,
