PLACE 7 Parachute / Battlement Mesa

Hi,

 Today we explored Parachute / Battlement Mesa.  There is a very pretty park called Western Town Community Park at 273 Sipprelle  Dr. Battlement Mesa, Co. It seems to have something for everyone such as Bike course, Shelter, Dog park, Fitness trail, and play areas, Tables, Benches and a very pretty view.

The Parachute Ponds State Wildlife Area looked very interesting with a hike that went to a pond but we didn't know that a SWA pass is needed now to visit these areas. We will soon get our Senior Annual SWA pass!
Next we visited the Grand Valley Recreation Center at 398 Arroyo Dr. Battlement Mesa. It is up on a hill with a beautiful view. It has all the usual forms of exercise that recreation centers have but in addition there are table and chair outside looking out on the valley. We discovered that anyone can pay for a day pass and spend the entire day here. In the summer they also show movies outside on the lawn.
LAZY CAMPING:  Take store bought hard boiled eggs, precooked bacon, spay cheese and soft tortilla. This could be rolled up and eaten cold or wrap in foil and heat on a fire.

OVERNIGHT # 8 VEGA STATE PARK

  Hi, We camped at Vega State Park on October 18th 2022. This is a great time to camp at this state park because of the golden leaves. The scenery is beautiful morning, noon and night!  The campground was sparsely populated. We were in site 114.  Vega State Park is about 8000 feet elevation and just northeast of the Grand Mesa National Forest. It is open year round. In March it was snow covered this year. There are 109 campsites located in 4 campgrounds around the lake. Activities include fishing, hiking, bird watching. In the winter it is a good place to snowshoe, cross country ski and snowmobile. The 6 cabins are open year round. Reservations are made online at Reserveamerica.com. The Meadows Group Picnic Area is so beautiful and would be a great location for a wedding or family reunion. Included here is a map of the park. We will definitely be back to stay in a cabin this winter and bring snow shoes, hot cocoa and hopefully friends and family! LAZY CAMPING MEAL: Chicken Taco Soup ve

PLACE 1 Wild Horse Range

  Hi,  This is day 1 of our 50 places in 60 days. Since our 50th anniversary is coming up soon, we  decided to celebrate by visiting 50 places in Colorado that we haven't explored yet. We also want to share a lazy camping idea in each post.  We visited a wild horse range that is close to Grand Junction, Co. Bookcliffs Wildhorse Range is 1 of 3 ranges in U.S. set aside to protect wild horses. Directions: I-70, exit 45 and go north 1.5 mile. Bear right at the fork to enter the Coal Canyon trail head. There was major road construction so be ready for some detours. The road turns to dirt after about one mile and there are a few shallow wash outs to go through. We never saw any wild horses today but there were signs that they had been in this area. There is a map display and a vault toilet in the parking lot.  This area has other trails other than the Coal Canyon Trail. We enjoyed our time here. OVERNIGHT #30 DINOSAUR INN & SUITES HOTEL / DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT &

  Hi, After 3 nights in a state park cabin without shower or running water, we booked a night at the Dinosaur Inn & Suites. This hotel is locally owned and operated and located in the heart of downtown Vernal Utah. They offer excellence in quality, comfort and hospitality since 1929. All rooms have WIFI, high speed internet, fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, iron and Direct TV with HBO and Cinemax. All the comforts were very appreciated! Our travels were to the Dinosaur National Monument. Our first stop was at the Quarry Visitor Center which is in Jensen, Utah. They are open all year except some holidays. We watched a 12 minute park film and then with an information packet we went exploring. This park has amphibians, birds, fish, mammals & reptiles. We were able to watch and enjoy some mule deer.
