PLACE 31 Salida & Arkansas Headwater Recreation Area

Hi, We took Hwy 285 north from Hwy 112  to Salida which is part of the Collegiate Peaks Scenic Byway.

Salida is one of Colorado's largest districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It would be fun to check out the historic walking tour in warmer months. The city of Salida has over 400 acres of open space, 36 acres of parks and more than 5.5 miles of trails in town. We spent some time in River Side Park which has access to the Salida River Trail on the Arkansas River.

The Arkansas Headwater Recreation Area (AHRA) stretches 152 miles from Lake Pueblo to Leadville Colorado. There are 8 campgrounds and we were in the Salida east section and campsite 1620 which was right by the river and just a few miles from Salida.

The views south of our campsite were breathtaking.

This would definitely be the place to go for any type of water sports. The ranger that we spoke to for this state park said that many of the campsites are going to be remodeled.

LAZY CAMPING: If going star gazing we just take our antigravity chairs and sleep out in the open.

Have a good day and night,
💕 50+ Lazy Campers
