PLACE 41 Marble

Hi,  Marble is located at the headwaters of the Crystal River in the Elk Mountain Range. To get there turn west on county road 3 from Hwy 133 and go about 6 miles.

The marble deposits of the Yule Creek were discovered in the 1870s. Major marble quarrying has occurred off and on through the years. Large chunks of marble can be seen all over this area.

The Marble Mill Park is at 213 W. Park St. Marble Co. This park is 25 acres with some of the remains of the old Marble Mill. It was still closed for the winter when we were in Marble.

Every summer marble stone carving is taught at Marble Co. Go to marbleinst.org for more information.

Marble Community Church at 121 w State St.  it is a National Historic Registry Church. It has  1900s interior and stained glass windows.

The Marble Hub at 105 w Main has visitor information, coffee, wi-fi, and banking.
The Marble General Store is on Marble road (west Park St.) and is open10-5 pm.
Some exhibits from the volunteer Fire Department are found here.

Some of the camping places in and near Marble is the Marble Campground at 215 W. Park St. It has spaces for small RVs and tents. No dogs are allowed here is CRAZY in our opinion! Opens in May.
Bogan Flats Campground is a National Forest campground. It has sites on the edge of the Crystal River. It opens in May. To get here from Hwy 133 turn west on county road 3 and go 1.5 miles and then left on Evergreen Lane and go about a mile to the campground.

The Beaver Lake State Wildlife area is a day use area for fishing, birdwatching and great mountain views. Tubes are allowed on the lake. This is just east of Marble.

Crystal Mill which is perched on rocks above the Crystal River is 6 miles east of Marble and can only be reached in the summer by 4WD with high clearance or walking.  This place is one of the most photographed sites in Colorado. The Mill was constructed in 1893 and used the river to power a compressor which was inside the building. Just beyond the mill is the ghost town of Crystal. The Crystal Mill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  To get there take county road 3 out of Marble. Sounds like Lizard Lake is passed on the way there. Getting more information before attempting it is recommended!

LAZY CAMPING: A one pot ( plus a tea pot of boiling water) spaghetti meal can be prepared by cooking a lb. of hamburger with a chopped onion then blot off excess grease at home. Put this in a baggie and chill in refrigerator. At camp heat hamburger mixture in pan add desired spaghetti and just barely cover with boiling water. Cook till done and add salt and pepper. At this point you can add a jar of pasta sauce and heat through or just server with catsup and hot sauce.

Have a great day and night,
💕50+ Lazy Campers
