OVERNIGHT # 14 Sun Outdoors Arches Gateway / SCENIC DRIVE SR313

 Hi, We stayed in cabin DC2-1 at Sun Outdoors 1773 North Hwy 191. This cabin is good for 2 people with a queen bed. The mini kitchen has a coffee pot, sink, utensils, tableware and cookware, microwave, and apartment size refrigerator and kitchen sink. There is also a bathroom with shower. This park is set in beautiful red rocks of Moab.

There are 3 Scenic Byways in this area. Today we did the Dead Horse Point Mesa Scenic Byway. (SR 313) Our first stop was Dead Horse Point State Park. The second photo is The Grand View Overlook at Canyonland National Park.


The Sun Outdoors has many amenities such a life size checkers, chess, corn hole, tether ball, putting green, pavilion, pool, dog parks, play ground and more.


The Moab area has areas for all sorts of activities such as hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, bike riding, mountain biking and more. We saw a humorous sign in the mountain bike area north of town that said Slow Down Small children, Family Pets, Wobbly Biker, Erratic Drivers, Occasional Cows.
The paved bike trail can be accessed right in front of this campground.

LAZY CAMPING:  Chicken Pot Pie: Combine and heat a jar of turkey gravy, can slice potatoes drained, can mix vegetables drained, can chicken drained and salt and pepper.  Serve in bowls with Ritz crackers crumbled on top.

PLACE 1 Wild Horse Range

  Hi,  This is day 1 of our 50 places in 60 days. Since our 50th anniversary is coming up soon, we  decided to celebrate by visiting 50 places in Colorado that we haven't explored yet. We also want to share a lazy camping idea in each post.  We visited a wild horse range that is close to Grand Junction, Co. Bookcliffs Wildhorse Range is 1 of 3 ranges in U.S. set aside to protect wild horses. Directions: I-70, exit 45 and go north 1.5 mile. Bear right at the fork to enter the Coal Canyon trail head. There was major road construction so be ready for some detours. The road turns to dirt after about one mile and there are a few shallow wash outs to go through. We never saw any wild horses today but there were signs that they had been in this area. There is a map display and a vault toilet in the parking lot.  This area has other trails other than the Coal Canyon Trail. We enjoyed our time here. OVERNIGHT # 8 VEGA STATE PARK

  Hi, We camped at Vega State Park on October 18th 2022. This is a great time to camp at this state park because of the golden leaves. The scenery is beautiful morning, noon and night!  The campground was sparsely populated. We were in site 114.  Vega State Park is about 8000 feet elevation and just northeast of the Grand Mesa National Forest. It is open year round. In March it was snow covered this year. There are 109 campsites located in 4 campgrounds around the lake. Activities include fishing, hiking, bird watching. In the winter it is a good place to snowshoe, cross country ski and snowmobile. The 6 cabins are open year round. Reservations are made online at Reserveamerica.com. The Meadows Group Picnic Area is so beautiful and would be a great location for a wedding or family reunion. Included here is a map of the park. We will definitely be back to stay in a cabin this winter and bring snow shoes, hot cocoa and hopefully friends and family! LAZY CAMPING MEAL: Chicken Taco Soup ve

OVERNIGHT #30 DINOSAUR INN & SUITES HOTEL / DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT &

  Hi, After 3 nights in a state park cabin without shower or running water, we booked a night at the Dinosaur Inn & Suites. This hotel is locally owned and operated and located in the heart of downtown Vernal Utah. They offer excellence in quality, comfort and hospitality since 1929. All rooms have WIFI, high speed internet, fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, iron and Direct TV with HBO and Cinemax. All the comforts were very appreciated! Our travels were to the Dinosaur National Monument. Our first stop was at the Quarry Visitor Center which is in Jensen, Utah. They are open all year except some holidays. We watched a 12 minute park film and then with an information packet we went exploring. This park has amphibians, birds, fish, mammals & reptiles. We were able to watch and enjoy some mule deer.
