OVERNIGHT #28 WASATCH MOUNTAIN STATE PARK / NIGHT #2 AT THE CABIN

Hi, Today we drove to Heber Utah and then had a picnic at Wasatch Mountain State Park which is in Heber Valley. This park has a great area to cross country ski, snow shoe and snowmobile in Alpine Terrain of 23000 acres.

We have been camping in state park cabins in Colorado and Utah. Here is a list of some ideas that we have come up with to make these cabin experiences better and more memorable.
1. When we arrive, we first turn on heat and then clean everything down with disinfectant. The park requires that the cabin be cleaned before departure and doing it on arrival makes the chore much easier when leaving the cabin.
2. There isn't running water in the cabin and in the winter, the water in the campground may be turned off, so check that out a head of time and take jugs of water if necessary.
3. The walk to the bathroom may be short or long and can be very dark, so take a flashlight. Some times in the winter the vault toilets may be the only ones open and they may or may not have hand sanitizer so take a bottle. If the shower is closed, we take disposable bath wipes.
4. We have heard coyotes and seen one, so if we have our dog, we have a leash and maybe pepper spray. We also have a light up collar for our dog. Not all cabins allow dogs, so you will need to check that out and pay a fee if the cabin chosen allows dogs.
5. So far all the cabins have had a mini refrigerator and microwave. We take our electric kettle to heat water and use a drip coffee maker. We also have collected a number of microwave prepared meal recipes. We use a lot of paper towels, paper bowls etc. since there isn't a place to do dishes in the winter.
6. The cabins have all had 2 ceiling lights which are nice and bright, but if some of us are early risers and others not, it is nice to take a small electric light to read by in the morning.
7. The cabin floors are very cold, so slippers are nice and wet shoes can be left by the door.
8. In the winter, there will be a path cleared to the cabin door, but if fresh snow falls, be prepared to sweep or shovel the path out again. The cabins have all had brooms but only one has had a snow shovel.
9. The code to get into the cabin will usually be in our email but has been on a note attached to the cabin. One time we had to call to get the code.
This is our cabin here at Fred Hayes State Park. This is our second night here.

LAZY CAMPING MEAL: We call this Thanksgiving in a bowl.  This is a 3 large meal size paper bowl meal preparation. First bowl, place 6 oz stove top stuffing mix, large spoon of organic ghee ( it does not need to be refrigerated) and boiling water. Stir and sit aside. In the second bowl place a package of dry turkey gravy mix and add boiling water, microwave to thicken then set aside. In the third bowl, place a package of instant potatoes and add boiling water to prepare.  Open a can of green beans, a can of turkey and a can of cranberry sauce. To assemble, For each person, in a bowl, place a scoop of dressing, a scoop of green beans, a scoop of potatoes, and top with turkey and gravy, then reheat each one in the microwave and finish with a large spoon of cranberry sauce in the bowl.

Have a good day and night,
💕 50+ Lazy Campers
