There are a variety of lodging accommodations.  Every night from 6-10pm there is a community fire. On arrival we were given a complimentary S'more packet and roasting stick.  This was the view from the porch where we ate our supper. We included a picture here of our treats for this trip. The Uncompahgre River Walk went in front of our cabin. Its a loop trail with resting benches, exercise circuit, and bridges over the river. The next day we went to Cascade Fall.  After a short walk there is a covered bench that looks right at the falls. Such a lovely place! Ouray is home to the Historical Our

PLACE 47 Georgetown

Image
Hi,   Today we explored the historic town of Georgetown Colorado which is in the mountains west of Denver before the Eisenhower tunnel and the elevation is 8530 ft. The views from town are beautiful. The lake in the picture is Georgetown Lake. Georgetown has a park that has the most fun looking kids park that we have ever seen. It is on Park Street. The project was made possible by the  Clear Creek Metro Recreation District. The history of this town includes that it was given the name" Silver Queen of Colorado" because it produced loads of silver at one time. The down town section of town has historic buildings from 1870s.  Sis states that they had a good time at Cabin Creek Brewing. It has indoor and outdoor seating. It is a family friendly lakeside brew pub that was started by 5 Coloradans. We are looking forward to trying this some time.   There are many events in this little town and the information is at  georgetown-colorado.org/events/ For two weekends every December t

PLACE 46 Idaho Springs

Image
Hi,   Idaho Springs is located in northeast Clear Creek Canyon a few miles west of Denver. The Colorado gold rush began in Idaho Springs and the Argo Gold Mine, Mill & Tunnel played a big part in this story in 1893.  It processed over 100 million dollars of gold ore in its lifetime. The Colorado and Southern narrow gauge railroad ran in front of the Argo and provided easy transport to the United States Mint in Denver Colorado.    The downtown was designate a national Historic District in 1984. In the 1870s to 1900, the downtown was the center of activity and it still is today. One of our favorite places to eat pizza is Beau Jo's and the building that it is in was built in 1879. Tommyknockers Brewery is also located in a historic building in downtown built in 1892. There is a good BBQ place and we discovered that you can eat outside by the river. Its called Smokin Yards. Its been awhile since we had it but it was great BBQ back then. Our best discovery is the Charlie Taylor Wa
