OVERNIGHT #34 MESQUITE NV. / SNOW CANYON STATE PARK

Image
Hi,  Our outing today was to the Snow Canyon State Park at 1002 Snow Canyon Drive in Ivins, Utah. It is about 48 miles from Mesquite NV. This park has many trails & dunes to explore on foot, bike, or horseback. The campground is surrounded by ancient lava flows and red Navajo sandstone. To get there we took I-15 to exit 6 which is Bluff St. ( UT 18) and turn left on Snow Canyon Dr. The day was very windy so we had a car picnic. We found a good coffee place in St George called Beans & Brews at 1216 S. Bluff St. It has dine in or drive through. We had a latte and mocha, both of which were good. The drive through was very convenient and the employees were so nice. There were palm trees to view while enjoying the coffee.   We like to fine parks in Mesquite that we have not explored. Today we finally found the Hillside Arboretum Park. It is small and so that is why we have missed it when looking for it in the past. It is a tree lined park with a beautiful pathway located at 501 Hi

OVERNIGHT # 31 MESQUITE NV LANDSCAPE / VIRGIN RIVER

Image
Hi, One of the best things about Mesquite NV is the beautiful landscape along all the walkways. We will be here for 4 nights at the Virgin River. This time we are in building 4 which is a new building for us. It has been a joy to walk all over town this time of year. There is a new drive through coffee place in town. We had a beautiful view at Hafen park to drink our coffee. The Hafen trail here goes for 3 miles. This park is on Hafen Lane Park in Mesquite NV. LAZY CAMPING MEAL: The Peggy Sue's 50's Style Diner has take out and we think the  Chicken Fry Steak & New York Steak breakfast are both good. They serve breakfast all day. Have a good day and night, 💕 50 + Lazy Campers

OVERNIGHT # 29 FLAMING GORGE-UINTAS SCENIC BYWAY / 3RD NIGHT AT FRED HAYES S.P.

Image
Hi, We took the Flaming Gorge -Uintas Scenic Byway out of Vernal Utah on US Hwy 191. The byway features 15 interpretive sites, which will be fun to do again when the snow is gone. These interpretive signs explain the evolution of the areas geology and wildlife. Along this byway we came to Steinaker State Park. The Steinaker Reservoir stores runoff water from Ashley Creek to provide irrigation water to the Ashley Valley. The area is named for General Willian K. Ashley, famous for his leadership in the fur trade in the West in the 1820s and 1830s. The campground online reservations begin in may. Online it says walk up reservation is available but this is what it looked like on Feb 8, 2023. We had a nice view for our car picnic at this park.    The next state park that we came to was Red Fleet State Park. This park is home to numerous dinosaur tracks which are believed to be more than 200 million years  old. The track are preserved in Nugget sandstone. The tracks range from 3-17 inches.

OVERNIGHT #28 WASATCH MOUNTAIN STATE PARK / NIGHT #2 AT THE CABIN

Image
Hi, Today we drove to Heber Utah and then had a picnic at Wasatch Mountain State Park which is in Heber Valley. This park has a great area to cross country ski, snow shoe and snowmobile in Alpine Terrain of 23000 acres. We have been camping in state park cabins in Colorado and Utah. Here is a list of some ideas that we have come up with to make these cabin experiences better and more memorable. 1. When we arrive, we first turn on heat and then clean everything down with disinfectant. The park requires that the cabin be cleaned before departure and doing it on arrival makes the chore much easier when leaving the cabin. 2. There isn't running water in the cabin and in the winter, the water in the campground may be turned off, so check that out a head of time and take jugs of water if necessary. 3. The walk to the bathroom may be short or long and can be very dark, so take a flashlight. Some times in the winter the vault toilets may be the only ones open and they may or may not have

OVERNIGHT #27 DINOSAUR DIAMOND SCENIC DRIVE WEST SIDE / FRED HAYES STATE PARK CABIN

Image
Hi, We decided to complete the Dinosaur Diamond Scenic Drive. We did the east side in Colorado but not the west side previously. The Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway National Scenic byway bridges Eastern Utah and Western Colorado with more than 500 miles of beautiful red rock scenery, rugged Book Cliffs and waters of the Colorado and Green rivers. On the way, we explored the little town called Helper. This is a town of about 2000 people and is northwest of Price UT. The Helper Riverwalk and Spring Canyon Trail offer paved walkways to explore natural habitats from river to desert. Helper is known as one of Utah's Christmas cities  with a magical walk downtown to view the Christmas lights during the Holiday Season.          Fred Hayes State Park is at Old Hwy 40, Duchesne UT. This time of year the park is snow packed. The Starvation Reservoir is frozen about 10 inches deep. The cabins overlook the frozen reservoir. Returning to Helper Utah during the Christmas season is on our
